Fine Wine Course 6: Red Burgundy

5th Mar 2014 6:30pm to 8:30pm

For Red Burgundy, as with the White Burgundy evening, we will explore differences of style and quality which are the consequence of different terroirs. How, for example, does Volnay differ from Nuits St Georges? And Nuits St Georges from Gevry Chambertin? And we will look at how the quality distinctions of Villages, 1er Cru, and Grand Cru wines are expressed in red wines.

There will be another opportunity to taste blind, to see quite what are the point and interest of doing so. We will see how vintage imprints itself on the wines and, once again, why it is worth buying and 'laying down' fine wines early .... and waiting for them to develop in bottle, to acquire more haunting bouquets and subtleties of texture, a greater overall refinement and harmony.
